What's New

A Tall Tale Posted at 08:17 PM - 10/05/08 in General by Dennis

Kids can be so gullible.

I know they are supposed to be able to trust their parents, but occasionally you have to tell them a tale so outlandish it's unbelievable.  You know, kind of like, "In my day, we had to walk to school, uphill both ways, on top of fenceposts because the snow was too deep".

So, last night I had to tell a story.  We had been discussing school yearbooks when I told them (my kids) that back in my day we didn't have cameras.  In fact, our yearbooks consisted of 30 little stick figures on a page with everyone's name.  And we didn't have copy machines either (remember mimeographs?) so the dumbest kid in the class had to sit in a corner and draw all of the yearbooks for everyone else.  Isn't that awful?  The worst part of the whole story is that my oldest believed it!  Then the little smart-alek asked if I was the kid who had to draw everyone else's.

Kids...Proof that God has a sense of humor.

Brian made a funny Posted at 09:15 PM - 09/30/08 in Sports by Dennis

Have you seen the commercial for Old Spice starring Brian Urlacher?

His laugh kills me every time I see it.

On a related note, did everyone (both of you) notice that 'Da Bears beat the Eagles last Sunday?  Oh, what a game!  I needed oxygen after it was all over!

Third Day Rocks Posted at 08:11 PM - 09/24/08 in General by Dennis

It's time for something new... or at least different.  How about a music review.

What?  You didn't know that I was also a music critic?

My talents are as numerous as they are useless.

So I'd like to discuss Third Day's latest release Revelation.

Album Cover No Song Title Time
1 "This Is Who I Am" 2:33
2 "Slow Down" 3:13
3 "Call My Name" 4:07
4 "Run To You" 3:27
5 "Revelation" 3:43
6 "Otherside" 3:14
7 "Let Me Love You" 3:08
8 "I Will Always Be True" 3:13
9 "Born Again" 3:41
10 "Give Love" 3:22
11 "Caught Up In Yourself" 3:33
12 "Ready" 3:20
13 "Take It All" 3:27

Let me just get this out of the way first, I love this album!  From beginning to end it's all rock album.  It is chock full of driving guitar riffs, and edgy vocals.  Chris Daughtry makes an appearance, as does Lacey Mosley of Flyleaf.  At first, I thought Lacey was an odd addition to a Third Day album, but after listening to it several times I've decided that she has a wonderful voice, and it flows very well with Mac Powell's.  The one thing that I still find strange is the banjo in "Give Love", but somehow it works.

I would be remiss not to mention that "Otherside" is my favorite song (It would make an awesome Guitar Hero song), but to be perfectly honest there is not a single song that I don't like.  In my opinion, this is by far their best album yet, so go check it out!

Here's the score: 5/5

Q and A Posted at 09:25 PM - 09/16/08 in General by Dennis

Q:  What is Sunday in September without power?
A:  Torture.  No power = No Football = Big Problem

Q:  What do the kids do when the power is out?
A:  Whine... A lot!

Q:  What causes the power to go out for 7½ hours?
A:  What's left of Ike.

I hate bad weather.  Ike blew through my area overnight and into the morning.  The rain ended around 8:30, but the wind didn't let up until later.  We lost power around 9:30 and didn't get it back until about 5.  I spent the afternoon keeping the generator running, and moving extension cords around.  Lunch was leftovers, warmed up on my ECS (Emergency Cooking System) aka the grill.

I did manage to catch most of the Giants/Rams game, utilizing my laptop and my Pinnacle PCTV HD Stick.  Man, did the Giants take the Rams to school, or what?  In their own house even!  I know my beloved Bears lost, but I haven't seen any of the high/lowlights.  All I know at this point is they blew a 17-3 lead.  Ouch!

They get no respect I tell 'ya! Posted at 09:14 PM - 09/09/08 in Sports by Dennis

These guys are getting less respect than Rodney Dangerfield!

Check out this post game interview the Andrea Kremer conducted with Matt Forte and Brian Urlacher.

Did you see the look Urlacher gave her?  Priceless!  Someone else who gives my Bears no respect is this columnist for CBS Sportsline.  I think it's pretty obvious that he's a Colts fan, and apparently so do some of the people who commented on his article.

The fact is, that the Bears had a plan going into the game, stuck with it, and executed it to perfection!
